Description

Well a long time between pictures, what with study and family. This image was inspired by the TV series Firefly which one of my friends lent me the DVDs of the series quite recently. My wife and I are both browncoat fans now. Most impressive series and what a shame there was only one season. Read about the history of Firefly on Wikipedia. Typical situation for SciFi on commercial television. They would rather put all that reality show crap on than decent SciFi. If they put on a SciFi series, then they screen the show later and later and then because the ratings have dropped, cancel the show. Any half intelligent person would realize that the drop in ratings is primarily because most of the potential audience have gone to bed, rather than the show being the problem. Probably also reality TV appeals to a dumbed down audience more than a show that requires a little thought. Well at least to mass media network management types. GRRRRRR. Anyway I will climb off my soapbox and stop bitching. Image created in Bryce 6 and post work in GIMP. The Serenity 3D model is in LWO format and will not import into Bryce 6 nor Poser 5. However I imported it into Blender, which is a free 3D modeler at www.blender.org and exported it as a 3DS model. This model then works with both Bryce 6 and Poser. I havenâ??t done a lot with Bryce, most of my work has been with Poser 5 so still learning. This is a beginners image IMHO. Anyway some tips on how I created the image for others blundering around with Bryce. The nebula, planet and atmosphere are all spheres. The nebulaâ??s material is atmospherics, cosmic-volumes, interstellar nebula. The planetâ??s atmosphere is a slightly larger sphere on the same X,Y,Z origin coordinates as the planet on the object attributes page and then an atmospherics material used. I had to experiment quite a bit to get it to work. A spotlight was then used to illuminate the planet where I thought the sunlight would strike it. The only postwork other than my signature was the sun. This was done in GIMP by the Filters menu, Light and Shadow, Supernova. Credits OK, Serenity model is by Sean P. Kennedy, his website is at http://www.seansgallery.com/ and the model is in Lightwave LWO format. It is a really excellent model. I got it from this url. http://www.foundation3d.com/index.php?categoryid=38&p13_sectionid=375 You will have to create a login and make a series of posts before you can download content from Foundation3D. The Firefly series is owned by Fox Television - the Serenity motion picture is owned by Universal Pictures.

Thank you!!!! i have had that model for a while now and have tried various ways to get it into bryce or daz but to know avail. I love that show and every so often will watch all of the episodes back to back. all 14 of them plus the movie! Book was my faviorite charicter though i loved all of them. the little girl was most intrieging though, man can she kick butt! Now that you have shown me how to tranform the model using Blender, a program that i hadnt tried yet to do this, i am looking forward to doing some great scenes from the show. thanks again!

This may look simple (to those who have never gone through the agony) but these images are hard to achieve. Always the best!

Very well done for the first Bryce work, excellent and detailed description too...a tip for the appearance of the planet: try to reduce the strength of the bump map and scale down the texture for about 30%-50%, to get a better resolution. You could also place a negative spotlight in front of the planet, that will create a crescent and if You align the spotlight (the main spot) with the sun, the result could be great ;o) Try it, if You like...
