Description

On February 6, 2008 Italian President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved parliament and an election date was set for April 13-14. And so, when I was in Rome last week-end, the city was full of electoral posters and interesting signs on the walls… Fast Facts: 1. Prime Minister Romano Prodi was Forced to Resign after losing a no confidence vote on January 24, 2008 2. President Napolitano had resisted calling snap elections, but claimed he was forced to "by the negative outcome" of the interim government's attempts to work together 3. Media magnate and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is the current favorite 4. Represents the collapse of Italy's 61st government since World War II 5. Second shortest parliament in Italian history [ ref : www.mahalo.com/Italy_Election_2008 ] I was especially pleased by the first ten comments on my previous upload; thank you William, Richard, Janis, James, PJ, Danny, Tunde, Skyla, Virginie & Andrea... I’m always delighted to read your interesting and intelligent comments ! thumb_1654684.jpg "Electoral posters #1"

The Italians seem to have had more changes of parliament than some of us sixties hippies have had lovers!

Well, after having sent the "Duce" to the inner circles of hell they decided to make democracy an endless celebration. Ars vivendi, like in so many other respects.

Looks as if this guy is just barely hanging on... What will be the future of Itally...and of that entire part of the world? Amazing how one government can affect so much around it. I wonder if this guy is really so black and white.

"Only" a snapshot or a sort of art? I cannot decide! Is this a real snapshot or is this a sort of photo manipulation? If this is a snapshot, then you have a very good eye for those situations. If it is a manipulation, then you are a great artist with photoshop...LOL... Great work!

This poster reminds me of something I'd see in Prague, or in the film version of Aeon Fluk: both look back at a Communist-influenced past where everything seemed to be dominated, conveyed, and controlled through stark and manipulative visual sense. Unlike other "political" images, this one captures something of what I take to be the mood there; you've captured the layered posters wonderfully, but the manner in which you present this image also conveys something of the people who put the posters in place! This is the kind of work that invites deep contemplation and offers an intriguing bit of provocation as well. Fantastically done! This is one of my favorites!
