Catherine Blackraven awoke, terror gripping her as she realized she did not know where she was. Darkness enveloped her, and she lay upon a cold, hard surface. She screamed and lashed out, finding something close on all sides of her. She yelled for help and pushed up, and the lid above her moved. Calming down a little bit, she pushed again until she moved the lid and heard it crash with a deafening sound. She sat up and took a deep breath of the cool night air. She looked around, and to her horror found herself in a graveyard. She looked down and realized she was in a coffin. Last night replayed itself in her mind, and she remembered the handsome gentleman she had met in the tavern and how he had been quite infatuated with her. She remembered having a drink with him and then nothing more until now. What had happened to her? Who was he? Why was she in a cemetery? She climbed out of the tomb and walked to the wrought-iron fence, wondering where she was. Her town had no cemetery such as this. Panic filled her again, as did a growing, gut-churning feeling in her stomach. She was thirsty. Very, very thirsty. She cried out as she bit her tongue, the taste of her own blood filling her mouth. She swallowed, realizing how good it tasted.
