Description

The Mississippi River in the Memphis area this year at the very least is at the 10 year flood level, possibly even higher. Memphis itself is high on the bluffs, so even though the water levels are extremely high we still have a ways to go before it becomes more than something interesting to look at. That's not the case though for areas north & south of us, and especially so for our friends across the river in the flatlands of Arkansas. Leah (lil_sizzler at Renderosity) & I took a drive to Arkansas last Sunday, and we were amazed how many miles into the state were under the wrath of the "Mighty Mississippi". Not only are vast areas under water, many places have an extremely swift water flow, often reminding me of surging mountain streams. Here's a shot of Leah taking a photograph of one such area. If we had braved treading out into the water, we'd have written a big "DUH" on that informative sign out there. I'm sure if not for that life-saving sign we would have taken a chance at driving through! Be careful out there! marshall

That would NOT have been a good idea, but I'm sure glad you got this shot ~~ it's another glimpse into Mother Nature and her power!!

LOL at the sign! I love stuff like that. Obvious understatement as a public service announcement.

Great capture and I would have been tempted to write the "DUH" on that very informative sign! Another warning to not fool with Mother Nature. It's sad and always has been/will be that some have way too much water and others not enough!

Flood on the Mississippi? Why don`t they tell something about it in the German news? Level as high as 10 years ago? I remember some satellite photos about this time.... Thanks for your information! Great picture of Mother natureĀ“s will. The sign is a little bit crazy....
