Description


It's a Purple-throated Mountain-Gem (Lampornis calolaema), a member of the select band of vertebrates which are shorter than their names. It's a hummingbird found in Nicaragua and in Costa Rica, where I took this photograph. One field guide has Lampornis calolaemus, but I think that that is an error.
