Stolta is correct, Lu...they seem to navigate looking for food and fish around the Great Lakes area. This is a beautiful capture and something you will remember, I'm sure.

cormorant or anhinga. The "snake bird" so named for its long neck that snakes around when its under water looking for food. These are amazing birds that do not have oil to protect them from getting soaked to the skin the way ducks and other water fowl do. After a dive, they have to sun - open their wings - so they can dry out before they can fly off or take another dive. Beautiful shot you got of this one!

We call it "Kormoran" in Germany, and they are not fishermen`s friend. They plunder the fishponds of the fishermen and make many damages (?)there. Only one bird is not a problem, but they can build up colonies with dozens, and they are all hungry. In earlier times the german fishermen shoot them, but this is not allowed today. We have two small colonies here in the city. Wunderful snapshot! You catched it very well. I like these colorful fethers, and you catched them. Great!

This is an excellent shot Lu, and I was going to say too that it is a Cormorant which is a large aquatic bird and linked to the gannet, and the pelican and is found mainly in warmer and tropical locations, mostly on the sea ... Superb photography, and thanks for sharing, hugs Jane xx
