Description
Amusing - this is one of the series of animal photos i was going to post up as part of the extension of my Manu series. Thought i would post it up now in response to lucindawind's earlier image:
WHAT is this ???
It is a Cormorant - and you could see them aplenty where i went - infact they were the most frequent sights when we went on the river... most of the time they were just chilling like this sunning their wings so they could fly again. Wet wings = bad for flying...
Tomorrow i'll post up some more from manu i think.
Goodnight ;)

I hear them called cormorant here on the coast but when I was in Florida on the springs rivers, they were called anhingas. Same thing, just different names for them in different parts of the world I think. I love to watch them down around Berkeley Bay when I head that way for fishing. I know someone who accidently hooked one while fishing off a charter boat near San Diego. This is a wonderful shot. They are such marvelous birds and marvelous to watch.

Fantastic capture.

Amazing how many different names the Cormorant is known by, in different parts of the world, all I knew was that they are a large aquatic bird which is really linked to the gannet and the pelican and is found mainly in warmer and tropical locations, mostly on the sea ... Anyway that is what I put in my comments to Lu. You have been there at the right time for this excellent shot!! hugs Jane xx

A perfectly timed capture Rich and brilliant colours and contrasts too. I love this pose, it's so funny, there are so many different thoughts come rushing to the brain when I look at this shot but I do like the "Does my bum look big in this?" option for a title LOL!! Brilliant detail displayed on his wings and lovely blue eyes they have too. An excellent capture. Hugs Chrissy xx
