Description

Early Morning Mood, A Marketing Story to Tell The world Famous spring-flower exhibition in “de Keukenhof” in the Netherlands was initiated by the “flower farmers” and “bulb traders” in the neighborhood of Castle Teylingen. The “Keukenhof” serviced the Teylingen Castle as “Kitchengarden” in the Middle Ages (Keuken = Kitchen) !! The purpose of the flower exhibition was to develop the area and to stimulate the trading of the Tulips, Daffodils and Hyacinths etc. The first flower exhibition was opened in 1949. Wooowwwwwww 1949 a remarkable year! LOL!!! In Groningen, in the North of Holland an Old Windmill (Rozenburgerpolder Windmill) was in a very bad condition and a permit for destroying the windmill was given in 1954. This Windmill was constructed in 1892 in order to keep the water level sufficiently low in the Rozenburgerpolder. In 1956 the HAL (Holland Amerika Lijn – Holland America Line shipping company from Rotterdam) bought the Windmill and rebuilt the mill at their expense in the Keukenhof as a special touristic attraction. In 1957 the job was finished and the HAL donated the windmill to the Keukenhof, but why the generous gift? Very simple: due to the keukenhof The HAL had a lot of American customers who wanted to visit the Keukenhof, and they used the passenger ships of the HAL. With a windmill in the park it was even more attractive to visit the flower exhibition!! But also they wanted to say thank you to the “Flower Farmers” taking care of the exhibition year after year!! Still today the windmill is working!! It’s not my favorite hour to be in the fields, I’m an evening person, but I had to bring my wife’s auto to the garage for service and had a nice two and a half hour walk back home, a walk surrounded by blooming field with daffodils, hyacinths and a few tulips. The walk was not the problem, I did not had to walk back to collect the car, but the garage bill at the end of the day ……… well I’m still alive!!! Photo taken last Friday in the morning with only little bit sunlight due to the morning mist. Thanks for your time viewing and commenting my photo’s, its highly appreciated. Have a very nice day Henk

The windmill does give what we think of as the perfect view of Holland. Tulips, windmill... a peaceful and colorful sight. :-) Fantastic information. Beautiful capture.

Well, it shows how the Netherlands have been making money for centuries, and why y'all are so successful at it! Didn't the Dutch even use tulip bulbs as money at one point? Anyway, it's a beautiful photo. I loved driving through the low countries and seeing the flower fields a few years back!
