Description

Below Niagara Falls, extending for some 7 miles (11 km) is the Niagara Gorge. It is scattered with Silurian formations which display a wealth of natural beauty. This gorge is a product of erosion that continues to be sculpted by the rushing water from the Falls which is undercutting the soft shale beneath a ledge of the more-resistant Silurian dolomite. Millions of years ago, this is actually where the Falls were located and eventually the area where they are presently, will look like this until they eventually work their way back to the Lakes and cease the natural erosion of the landscape.
