Description

Hello all!! Do you see the Elephant here? face up toward the sky , look ,he is sunbathing I believe hehe... this rock formation i am guessing probally like 20 to 30 feet high and he definatly has a presence ! Elephant rock is located in Valley of the the Fire national park in Nevada ..., known for a delicate fiery red sandstone formation resembling an elephant. During the last Ice Age, which ended 10,000 years ago, this area was much cooler and wetter, providing habitat for many animals that are now extinct, including saber-tooth cats, giant ground sloths, prehistoric horses and camels, and giant mammoths. The only relic of that time is a giant rock that looks like an ancient mammoth. Elephant Rock is a testament to the many varied stone shapes at Valley of Fire, thanks to the wonders of geology and the erosive power of weather. This shot was taken as we drove past the hwy of from out of my Mom's new Santa fe crossover, with my arm up and pocket cam pointing for it out of the sunroof ( lol my Mom was driving haha uhm she told me I couldn't drive anymore cause I kept driving with one hand and the other with my camera out of the sunroof). I am told this rock is one of the most photographed in the park but I had never seen it before or from this side in pics... ( most people photograph it from the other side, but we couldn't get out and hike to other side as I was with my Mom who has a knee problem )... it was midday drive by from the car shot and a little bright but I still think it was an interesting rock so sharing it with you today ! Haven't been on as much lately with a new cocker spaniel puppy who is very active and in need of constant attention ~ but will try and catch up today! Thank you for your time and comments! Love to all! ((( BIG HUGS ))) ~ Kimmers ! ♥ !:o))
