Description

At three in the morning, the streets are never silent. The streets are never fully dark. Clouds obscure the moon and paint the sky in the unctuous gray-orange of reflected sodium vapor lamplight. The rain-season has come. Others call it spring, he he knows it by truer name. He simply calls it wet. And through wetness that clings to clothing, and clings to the inner recesses of your lungs when you breathe...through this wetness, he walks. Sirens wail in the rearward distance—back near Namesti Miru, where cellar bars of particular, hidden pedigree, serve drinks at one hour before closing. He has left such a bar, and now heads home. There are no stars tonight, no signs of remote, glimmering company. He has to make due with shards of glass, reflecting the hepatic light of streetlights and storefront illumination. He has to make due with his own thoughts, and the sounds of traffic for company. He'll take a night tram the rest of the way home: --for the company.... --for the distraction of faces.... --for the off chance of seeing the stranger he has seen and remembers, for the shy smiles shared between them...the stranger who wore black and tan, and skin like the honey-burnished shell of a pecan. He has not seen the stranger since then, but he remembers the face, the smile. And so tonight, as on other nights after drinks and idle chat, he hunts with his eyes. Hoping... Hoping... He will see the stranger again; he is sure of it. But time will reveal when. He is sure of that, and though the thought provides little comfort, he holds it. Closely. While in one pocket, his hand clenches the beveled comfort of a half-full pack of cigarettes. *** Another nocturnal photo-manipulation, centered on impressions derived from a single pedestrian in Prague. A local, no doubt, since he was walking in an area of the city that tourists don't visit. The character portrayed and the actual person in the image aren't related, but one seems to have spawned the other. As always, thank you for viewing and commenting, and hopefully you enjoy this image!

What a great storyline to go with this photo, Chip. Your imagination is limitless with these captures. In the photo, I like the way you have captured the detail with the cobblestone streets...one could almost count each and every one.

Another super shot. I love the story you have used to enhance and bring life to the image. I really like the mood you have brought with your postwork as well. I can almost feel the cold, wet night.

Well yes Chip, I enjoyed both the story and the photogragh. I found myself hoping for the stranger to be found, to maybe turn up as I read along. This fellow seems a bit lonely. The photogragh is an excellent capture for the portrayal of him as he travels home. Love It!

Great effect from the limited light and you really captured the lonliness and atmosphere of the early hours of the morning. Your flowing words really add so much more to the scene!

What a sad story, yet full of hope! Brilliantly written and the image that goes with it is superb. I love the mood and the sad determination on his face. xx

Wonderful, rich, imaginative writing that goes so perfectly with the photo of this dark hunter walking the streets. You go inside his head and his thoughts (and dreams) are so real. Great work. CC

As always there is your story that fits so well with the image. That gives so much to think, to remember. Weren't there nights when I did the same? Heading home after a long night's clubbing, thinking of a stranger once met and never again...?
