Now this is either a gopher or a mole (not sure)
but the thing is when I got closer he got ugly
look at the last zoomed in picture,I never imagine they had such big teeth and the hair that stood up as he noticed me wow!
I didn't realize they had hair??lol
He sure is hard to catch and my garden is a mess:

Great capture... But I hate anything that looks like a mouse grin Once I had one in the utility room no trap Lured him in the garbage sack and let him go to mouse heaven... I get on top of chairs when I see one which is rare... This is cute to look at but I would hate to run into it Great capture sis Hugs Susan~

Moles have very short tails, don't think it's one of those. But good capture whatever it is. : )

Could be a vole or a shrew? Shrews are very nasty and eat their weight in food everyday. I can't help but laugh at this last photo. It reminds me of my mother's little min pin. He was only 8 lbs. but he thought he was king of the hill. Both so small but so big in stature. I don't think I'd go near this fellow without tin shin guards on and steel toed shoes, heheh.

We have been catching woodchucks for the last few summers. They can eat through the heavy wire of the trap if they get persistent but their heads then get stuck.
