Description

Restoration - History This is the home of my husband's great-grandfather, Joseph (Captain) Hancock and his wife, Lydia Ann Tyler Hancock, during their lifetime and after it's restoration. They are shown in the old photo, which is one passed down through the generations. He served during the Civil War with the 36th Massachusetts Infantry and died in 1903. She passed on the following year. The home has been restored and a local lady from Milford kindly took the photo as it stood in 1999. I found them and the house full of so much nostalgia and can only imagine the history made inside those walls. We were the recipients of his diary from the war, the rifle and a pocket watch he carried during those years. Just thought I would share this with those interested in history and restoration. Thanks for views and comments on my previous images and wish you all a great weekend.

What an exciting and historical lineage, Deanna. I'm gald the house has been restored and not torn down for a parking lot or shopping area. I rather like the original front doorway as it had existed. So, kinda think the small covered porch detracts from the original beauty. Just my preference, here.

Great to see something restored rather than knocked down and replaced. Gives such a sense of history. Well done.

Intereseting to see how it has changed over the years and the influence of the different styles. In my serach for other period photos, I discovered that Captain Hancock would have served in my home town during the Battle of Fredericksburg, VA. Such a small world. http://www.civilwararchive.com/Unreghst/unmainf4.htm

What a beautiful old house, Love the fact that it was restored and not pulled down like it would have been here!!! I liked the little porch on the side, somewhere to sit a smoke a pipe on long summer evenings, not that I smoke a pipe !!!! LOL
