Description

This old boy was standing in the middle of the road and couldn't be bothered that we had to get to the camp on time. He was just staring into the distance thinking of his youth I imagine. The age of a giraffe can be determined by the colour of their spots. The darker the spots, the older they are. This one is very old! If you look closely, you will also see calluses on his neck. The males fight by hitting each other with their necks. They also rub their necks against Acacia (thorn) trees all the time to get rid of ticks and other parasites! Graceful old boy though! This image was also taken in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Thank you for stopping by. Hugs, Carin xx

Is there a problem, officer? Another fine profile capture of one of the many magnificent animals that inhabit the South African veldt, Carin! Incidentally, in case you didn't know it, giraffes have no vocal chords.

I can see the age in the shape of the head and the set of the face. He is a proud one, isn't he? I wouldn't argue with a traffic cop that had legs this long...! Fabulous shot.

as long as he is that big and that beautiful, he can stop whoever he likes, especially if i have my camera with me.

Great photograph; there is regal dignity in it...the giraffe himself possesses it, but your image is wonderfully seen and presented! Beautiful image!
