Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image. This species is one of my favorite Dragonfly subjects. They are not overly skittish, they frequently land, and they are very colorful. I hope you will take the time to view the large image. The details are quite nice. I am pretty sure this is a female but it is possible that it is an immature male. The males start with this color pattern but their eyes and tails turn blue when they become sexual mature. Until that happens one needs a clear view of the tip of the tail to make a positive determination of gender. Tomorrow will be another view of the same subject. Fantastic image! I love the definition and DOF as well as the sense of color. I know the tip of the abdomen trick with insects, but I'm unable to tell if this is male or female...but that doesn't matter, it's a gorgeous image! Fantastic work and I'm glad I saw it.

You know Lee, I would love to see what you could acheive with a dedicated macro, the shots you take with this little pocket camera are truly outstanding. The quality of them is unbelievable. Once again the detail is superb, even the body hair standing out as individual hairs. An enjoyable view as always. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
