Description

Don't have any idea what kind of bird this is. The beak was in terrible condition but I know that some girls would kill to have his lovely eyes and lashes!

Looks like he's taken part in a few battles to end up with a beat up beak like that. I suppose the girl birds might be wild about him - he has that bad boy image about him. Super shot - nice level of detail.

it is a Ground Hornbill, from Africa. a while ago someone else posted a pic of one with a damaged bill, so that may be a problem with zoo birds. could be a vitamin deficiency, though that should not happen in a respectable zoo. maybe the bird has just lived to unnaturally old age and is starting to wear out. so, splendid colours but a bit sad.

When I read the title aan image flashes across my mind of a lesbian neighbour! Your queer bird, however, is less scary. A marvellous photo.

" Southern Ground-hornbill / Bucorvus leadbeateri " being supposed to be quite quarrelsome and fly and running fast this (30 km/h). For the photo he stood held very quietly and a really more striking gloriously colorful bird is. He has eyes just as beautiful as the " Secretary / Sagittarius serpentarius " (also means till South Africa).
