Description

Just what is hiding under the surface, waiting to be revealed by the shifting sands, preserved by the dry environment. How long have they been buried, lost from the world of man? What discoveries will make our future military archaeologists famous? And how will they interpret the meagre remnants of our once great civilization? …. Another retro-SciFi style desert image, from me; I must admit that the colours are quite appealing to me at present. This image has been a great learning curve in using Vue 6 Pro Studio but I have so very much more to learn. Martin Schemmer (a.k.a. regresg) created the models of the Ratel infantry fighting vehicle and the G6 self propelled howitzer. Both these excellent models are in the 3DS Max section of Free Stuff on Renderosity. I imported them and then applied the Painted Rust texture that comes with Vue 6. Thank you, Martin for the fantastic models. The Stinger spacecraft is from Daz 3D. It was a free download last year, not sure if it is still a free download. This is a Poser model. However once I imported it into the scene, the brilliant red texture map meant that it overwhelmed all the other objects. One could say it stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb. So I played with the advanced material editor to change the reflectivity and other options on the textures of the Stinger so that it would blend in better with the other objects. Lots of experimentation with the settings but fairly happy with the result.

I really enjoy that scene and concept. Let me tell you, I did a desert scene and noticed that the shadows of the dunes ended up straight-sided, reflecting the underlying simple mesh. I "cheat". I use PS or PSP to round the shadows to make them more realistic and conformal with the shape you see.
