Description

I am exhausted from standing for more than 3 hours yesterday and taking over 200 photos. This is number 73 and the middle part of the house. I had a chance to speak with the foreman of the project who graciously said I could even take a movie if I wanted to...He said the house was built roughly 1890, the ceilings are tin, the wood beneath all the years of paint is beautiful and it sickened him to have to tear down such beauty...but once the heat source is removed the house has to come down...said he has leveled over 1100 homes in my city...he is contracted by the city and its obvious he and his crew are experienced and well trained to do this. As sad as this was for me to watch and record, it was very educational. For example, it never occurred to me that they would have to have hoses ready to keep the tractor 'tracks' and jaws clean, to keep the dust down and to make sure there was no fire...One spark could have caused considerable damage in the neighborhood. Dust could carry any number of toxins in the wind. All the pipes, appliances, water heaters (recyclables) etc all have to be moved separate of the wood and burnable debris. They finished leveling the house in about 3 and a half hours. Also a shed out back and several trees were removed. Everyone was worried about roaches and rats running from the house, the only thing that ran was the black squirrel who prior to the start of demolition sat on the neighbors fence scolding them loudly. Thanks for looking and previous comments!

There are very strict laws in governing that stuff. Here in Washington my area not were I live.If you track mud into the street that is a hefty fine. When excavators pile dirt they have to seed it so it will cut down on dust if they are leaving it that way for a while.
