Description

A dark, crow-sized heron. Crown black, back and wings dark gray-green or gray-blue (depending on lighting); neck chestnut colored. Bill dark; legs bright orange. Immatures have streaks on neck, breast, and sides.

Excellent clarity and detail on this beautiful bird, even though I don't like them for their fish eating habits, it doesn't stop them being beautiful. There is a bird sanctuary about one and half miles as the heron flies with 27 breeding pairs at the last count. I have had them pretty close checking out my fish pond, but never when I have the camera in my hand. So that is the reason I don't really like them. It doesn't stop this being an excellent capture either. Superb work. Bravo!!!!! The pond is well netted so they have no chance.
