Description

Found at the edge of the huge puddle in the road next to the pond. Assumed it was a leaf at first but it looked a bit too symmetrical so I thought Hey, that kind of looks like a turtle. Then I remembered the literally thousands of times I've seen a rock or leaf or dead lumberjack and mistaken it for a turtle, and didn't want to get my hopes up. However, it was a turtle. A tiny baby turtle. I picked them up, took a few pictures, then set them back down, after which they scooted back into the mud and disappeared. I debated whether or not I should put them in the pond but decided not to, as they were really tiny and would probably have been eaten by larger turtles or that crane I saw once that lives/hunts there. Postwork: Brightened and enhanced colors, especially to bring out the detail on the main subject because they were dark and the sun wasn't that bright at the time. I made them a bit browner too (copy + paste + style: orange tone + layer: soft light). EDIT: not assuming gender in turtles anymore (because if you think about it, that just makes no fucking sense -- it's not like they can tell us what gender they are -- plus it's cissexist and binarist). sorry about that.

A wonderful find and capture. I hope he is able to grow up. We haven't got any turtles down here so it is lovely to see yours.
