Description
For moms everywhere.
I am so blessed. I still have my mom. She is going to be 77 on the 14th of this month.
She is my heroine. My mom stayed married to a man who was an alcoholic, who beat her, who played head games with her sanity, who demeaned her. There was nowhere for her to go back then. No shelter to take her and her children in.
I watched her do without so much so that we all had what we needed. I watched her hang up diapers in the dead of winter when it was so cold that as soon as she hung a diaper, it froze. I watched her wear thongs that same winter and she would walk in the snow to the clothes line to hang those diapers wearing those thongs.
She read to us, fairy tales, and she read to us from the Bible. She taught us to love one another and that what people were, was more important than what they looked like.
The things I learned from her were not things she said, so much as things she did, the way she lived. She wasn't a happy woman at all. She lived under terrible stress all the time. She never knew when my father was going to come home drunk and beat her.
She never knew from one week to the next how much money there was going to be for groceries.
I learned many things from her, some not so good since she spent years when she was just surviving rather than living.
I think one of the most important things I learned from her is endurance. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep on keeping on. Don't give up. No matter how hard the going gets, you don't give up. That is something I have only just recently understood.
I also learned compassion from her at an early age. My dad had beaten her so badly she could barely move and I told her I hated him. She told me, "you don't hate him, you hate what he does". She had, and has a grasp of human nature that she could look at from beyond her own experiences.
I'm really lucky, and really blessed.

Lovely image and lovely thoughts of your mother that got me to thinking about my mother. It's often easy to think ones parents might have done more while overlooking how much they did.

What a beautiful fractal, very sweet, so well composed! And may your mom, when it's finally her time, be taken to be with the Lord forever, where she'll be cherished, and perfectly loved, and the pain of all those years will be forever gone and forgotten. Bless her for all her love and care for you!

Dear Lea, your image takes on an added dimension- the sweetness and beauty of your wonderful mother, as you have described her sterling character. I'm sorry her life was was such a difficult one, and I hope her circumstances are better now. You are blessed to have eachother. Sweetpeas are my favorite, and I love your trellis, arbor and artistic interpretation.

Wonderful tribute... A strong woman your mother. Mother's day is very important to remember and appreciate. I lost my dad in 1984 and my mom in 2003... We really need to be good to them while we have them. We really don't know what we have untill we loose it..

Some men have too much testosteron, too much adrenalin and they obviously cannot manage it, causing lots of sorrow. I hope your mother can enjoy live as much as I do now (nearly one year older than she is). A very nice dedication, Leann.
