Description
This past Thursday evening, the US National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for a large portion of North Carolina, including the county where I reside. The warnings expired at 12 midnight. At 2:30am a F2 tornado set down about 3 miles from my home and caused extensive damage. The same front spawned a tornado in the Greensboro area that took one life and injured several others.
Because of the hilly geography, tornadoes in these parts are usually masked from view by torrential rains and lots of trees. The next morning the weathermen were predicting another, possibly worse, situation on Sunday, May 11, Mother's Day.
Today, Mother's Day, the warnings went out again. This is a shot of the incoming storm over Lake Norman. So far I don't know if any tornadoes were spawned but I do know there was enough hail in areas to turn the ground white.
I will follow up with two more photos of the spectacular cloud formations the passing storm produced.
I hope you like the photos. Wish you were here?

"Wish you were here?" No thanks, I have my own tornado warnings here in the Midwest, thank you very much. : ) Gorgeous sky. Is that what they call a wall cloud? Lovely photo. Thanks for sharing. Now go inside and get in a safe place.

The photo is beautiful..you've really captured the moment. Nope, don't wish I was there...I'm in the part of Missouri where the same thing is happening...13 dead in the last couple of days. I have lived here almost all of my life and still can't get used to the tornadic activity!

So do I... LOL.. So far this year I've only had one tornado, but it was somewhat hidden during the night and only visible with the lightning. The rest of my chases so far have been busts. However due to high fuel prices I'm somewhat limited and more choosy of what I chase. Thanks for sharing, I love seeing storms from other parts of the county. Be safe as this year has been very active especially in the southern states. Still waiting for the activity to move north.
