I just thought it reminded me of a tiny waterfall, the way the layers formed and flow one upon the other.

I think it would be considered a mushroom, I have actually had a chance to research it. But I know don't think it would fall into the "fungus" catagory.

Superb fungus! It looks like it might be a member of the Oyster mushroom family, Pleurotus. You could do some reseach starting with that name. Very interesting pic.
