Description

I took this image in the Thorny Bush Private Game Reserve in South Africa. Here is some trivia regarding this fellow that most people love to hate! Hyenas are mostly scavengers and are known to steal kills from lions, leopards and cheetahs, although they do sometimes hunt themselves and then usually in a pack. They have the strongest jaws of all carnivores. This particular hyena was one of a pack of five who had actually made their own kill. We were too late to see the actual kill but watched in amazement as they devoured the poor buck in just a short period of time - bones and all. The buck's blood can still be seen on this fellow's neck and face. (I know it is eeewww, but that is nature.) I have personally had two very close calls involving hyenas and are therefore very careful around them!!! Thank you for popping in and for any comments you wish to make! Hugs, Carin xx

Excellent capture from this low down POV and they are busy bodies, so not easy to get them in such a well posed state. Ha, het die hiena jou amper gevang...?
