It was over in almost the blink of an eye. We never even saw the enemy that returned humanity to the Stone Age in just a few days. Their robots destroyed everything. No small town or village was spared the same destruction inflicted on the major cities of the world. The military might of the world went down fighting, pissing into the wind for all the good it did. We might have only descended into feudal barbarism but the would be warlords of the world were quickly eradicated. The moment they used their guns the enemy's robots descended on them with all the fires of hell wiping them from the face of the planet. Even using something as small as a handgun was enough to draw one of their robots. Humanity lacking the even the most basic knowledge needed to survive many of the survivors resorted to cannibalism. In time we learned that which we had forgotten. When we finally got a look at our enemy, their massive bodies and all their arms and short little legs, they towered well above even the tallest of us. We were vermin to them, and like those we once treated as such, so were we treated. I have heard stories of hunts around the ruins that were one thriving metropolises where some of those captured were turned into pets. Others, I have heard, were used in perverse experiments and various other research as the aliens had need. I've heard of breeding pens and some who have been put on display in what passes as a zoo for the aliens where we have also been used as food for some of the other animals on display too. There are still things of value in what remains of our cities. Every now and again we risk capture to gather a few of those things that would help us to survive...
