The misfortune for the Tintagel Sector was to be roughly equidistant from both New Armorica and New Cambria. Both sides wanted to own Tintagel, but, in military terms, it was so much easier not to, because occupation meant permanent defence, at a time when both forces were already severely stretched elsewhere. The NA armies should have realised that the NC Defence Force yielded the territory suspiciously easily. NA commanders soon began to complain that they lacked the numbers to protect the newly "conquered" territories effectively. Small, well-equipped commando units of NC troops commenced raids right across Tintagel. None of the raids was more than a pin-prick, in strategic terms, but the ability of the raiders to get in and out almost unscathed became a huge embarrassment to NA on the galactic stage, while Tintagel reinforced its reputation, among the NA military, as the worst posting possible.
