Description

Since February, we have been enduring the renovation of our kitchen. It is not quite complete, but here are some before and after images of what was done so far. Some things are still missing or need to be changed. Over the sink, a granite shelf matching the countertop needs to be installed. The cabinet above the refrigerator needs to be replaced (again!) with one that will not leave a gap between cabinet and refrigerator. One window, not shown in the photos needs to be replaced. and, a few other minor tasks. I put together this collage to to send to family members and decided to share here. The house was built in 1921. In 1931 the owners expanded the house to increase the size of the kitchen, add a back porch, add a laundry room, and add a 1/2 bath downstairs. Upstairs, a fourth bedroom was added. When we first moved into this house in 1996, we knew we had to update this kitchen, but couldn't at the time. We settled for cleaning and applying new polyurethane to all the cabinet doors & drawers. We also repainted all the metal hardware. After 11+ years, it was about time to book the renovation! The previous owners put in a drop ceiling which made the kitchen look much smaller than the rest of the rooms. By getting rid of the drop ceiling, we now had 104 inches of height to play with. As you can see, we went for larger cabinets providing us with more storage! Also, the outside walls needed to be insulated -- the kitchen was cold in the winter! Before photos taken with a Casio Exilm EX-Z55 and After photos taken with a Casio Exilm EX-Z75. Thanks for viewing this collage! P.S. Yes, I am the one that cooks in the family. Three of my grandparents were chefs.

Nice collage and nice kitchen. It's amazing how they can always manage to create more space. I took out our soffets, too, and gained a lot of storage. It's so much brighter. Now where did we put the Margarita Pitcher!

posted by 'moonrancher': "Now where did we put the Margarita Pitcher!" My bar area is next to the refrigerator. My wine and shot glasses are in the cabinets with the windows. Coffee maker, espresso machine and wine bottle opener are on the counter. Pitchers, glasses and mugs are in the top cabinet.
