Description
At 10:26 a.m. on June 4th ,1942, A Dauntless dive bomber from Enterprise CV-6 lays a 500 pound bomb directly on the flight deck of the IJN carrier Akagi. The bomb penetrated to the upper hangar deck and exploded among the armed and fueled aircraft there. The damage from that bomb and a near ‘miss’ from another bomb that damaged the rudder and bent the flight deck upward was enough to render the Akagi inoperable.
