Description

In 2003, artist Kaziah Hancock painted a portrait of a local soldier from Utah who was killed in Iraq. She gave the painting to his family. She was asked to do others and decided to keep doing them as long as her resources held out. Project Compassion was started, now she and four other artists paint portraits of troops that have died in active service, since Sept. 11, 2001. They are given to the families free of charge. So far they have done around 1000 portraits. Project Compassion *** Made the flag in Hexagon, using 2 photos for reference. Couldn't texture the stars in, so I made them with terrains. For those not familiar with US military tradition, the flag that drapes a coffin is taken and folded very specifically by an honor guard and then presented to the next of kin. Too many flags have been folded over the years, but I honor each one and the sacrifice for which it was given.

Excellent work. Great modeling and texture work. A fitting tribute to all members of the military who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and a heartfelt "Thank You" to all those who made it back.

I really don't have the words to properly express how impressive this work is. It's been a very long time since I've been so emotionally affected by someone's work.
