WOW! This is a VERY powerful piece of work. You really take my breath away with the strength of the composition (love that you kept it off center to heighten the sense of movement and give those tentacles room to thrash). I’m also BLOWN AWAY by the restraint you showed by using such a tight color palette. It really helps convey antiquity and a sort of “end of the world” emotion. This is very impressive… it reminds me of the type of illustration you’d find in a classic edition of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea… or some other great adventure novel. If I were to nitpick to find something to suggest by way of improvement (and this hardly needs such a suggestion), it would be to wonder aloud about the cliff/boulder at the left of the image. Its sheer weight (both size and darkness of color) make it compete with the squid and ship for domination of the image. The cliff actually distracted my tired eyes (I’ve been up all night working on an image) and made it difficult for me to make out some of the central action for a few seconds. Not that it’s a bad thing… the energy and sheer ferocity of the image draw me in and make me want to discover more about what’s going no here. I wonder if there might be less competition if the cliff were “toned down” just a bit. But, as I said, I’m nitpicking. I really love this image (and, by the way, those are some GREAT clouds to the right – I really like how realistic they are and how well they help bring balance to the image). BRAVO and well done!

Wonderful posing and render, not sure if a boat would be there though IMHO.

One of your best renders! Really like the sepia-toned colouring. Seems appropriate, somehow.

I think the color scene makes it very impressive. Wonderful placement of octopus and tentacles.
