Description

You all think I might be late getting this posted, but I am of an age that I celebrated these holidays on their original dates, way before the government officials changed them so that government officials could have Mondays off work too. So actually, I am way early. Memorial Day was originally May 30th. That being said I thought about what I wanted to post for this holiday. There were many stirring words and statistics I could have written here. I decided against that, in favor of this. This photo is Public Domain. Photo Courtesy of U S Army Photo by Adam Skoczylas Taps Fading light dims the sight, And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright. From afar drawing nigh -- Falls the night. Day is done, gone the sun, From the lake, from the hills, from the sky; All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Then good night, peaceful night, Till the light of the dawn shineth bright; God is near, do not fear -- Friend, good night. Author Unknown The instrumental version "Taps" is played at Military funerals. Thank a soldier for their service for their country.

Wonderful, moving remembrance. A poignant photographic "Taps" to accompany the somber and beautiful words. Thank you, Lea.

the first time in my life to visit a military cemetery was in Manila, Philippines and I was in awe and extreme sadness to see more than 17,000 graves more than any other cemetery holding WWII soldiers. discussion in school ,newspapers, television means very little until one sees first hand so many graves

Beautiful memorial. Young american men and women willing to die for their country and the rest of the world. Even when paying the ultimate price. I always thought though.... almost every war is one war too many.. But that is my oppinion.
