Yesterday our weather hit the 80's and it was a very muggy day so we needed something chilled. I have very fond memories as a child of Sunday drives with my Gramps, always greeted with anticipation because we knew he would stop at the local A&W for big frosty mugs of root beer...
or he would get the largest size 'to go' and then when we got home he would get the old crank ice cream machine and make french vanilla ice cream. When it was done, in the hottest part of the day, he got the frosted glasses out, scooped in the ice cream and added the root beer. I remember everyone just getting very quiet as they sipped on their sodas. A very peaceful time that brought the family very close for a time at the end of the work week and before the beginning of the new week.
I thought about taking this image outside to show the contrast of the hot and cold, but then decided to shoot it inside to give it a nostalgic feel. I hope I achieved that with the chairs at the empty table and the antique silver spoon in the glass. Noting that I thought the shadow of the spoon against the far wall gave it that past time feel. Cheers!

Ah yes the rootbeer float. I has been near 35 - 40 since the ride to the roadside A&W place for me. Thanks for the memory jog. Excellent, hope it cooled you down to comfort.

Great effect with the shadow, Lynn! I'd love to see you try this again in some bright sunshine with a gleaming spoon and some glints of natural light in the glass... and here's a trick we used to use in the studios now and again. Use an aerosol water spray on the glass to add an extra cold look.
