My name is William Baker, though you probably know me better as Flint Marko, The Sandman. As the name suggests, I have the ability to transform my body into a malleable, sand-like substance which can be hardened, dispersed or shaped according to will. Over the past few years I've found myself on both sides of the law. I've served time in the pen and I've been an Avenger. I've gone toe to toe with Spider-man, Doc Ock and the Hulk. I've even been one half of a mud monster ( don't ask ). So understandably, I thought I'd seen it all. That was until 2 days ago. I was quite content sat at home watching Buffy, when I'm teleported into the middle of a battle in progress. As you can imagine, I was pretty pissed. Willow was kissing that other chick again. Back to the battle. I was being mauled by creatures that even I had never seen before and like I said, I've seen a lot. I don't know what they were, just that they weren't human, or even close. So I take down a few dozen of these bad boys, but it was a numbers game. I awake to the stench of rotting vegetables and leather. Despite what my nose was telling me, I wasn't at home. The first face I recognize is Doop. Doop and I go way back, we used to shoot pool back in high school, though we both looked a little different back then. Turns out the Doopster was the one that had teleported me in, I'm not sure how, but with him the fewer the questions the better. He explained something about an invasion or a genetic outbreak, but to be honest I was more interested in the hottie in the rocks. So to cut it short I'm now leading this bunch of misfits to safety through a war I wanted nothing to do with. Shouldn't be too hard though, we got a team of heavy hitters here: Jennifer Walters, formerly the she hulk had a run in with the demon Zarathos and found herself transformed into the sprit of vengeance. Puck, formally of Alpha Flight, this mini powerhouse barely survived a term with the Weapon-X agency and found himself with an adamantium blade. Petunia. I'm not sure of her deal to be honest. She claims to be a great granddaughter of the Thing from the future send back to prevent the spreading of something called the "Grimm Virus". Whatever. All I know for sure is that what she hits don't get up anymore. Man-Thing, the old shagpile don't say much. He don't do much for that matter. I'm I'm glad he's on our side. That just leaves Doop, and everybody knows his story anyway. Now all thats left is to kick some ass and get back to Buffy. ******** Text and pencils by me. Amazing colours by Imiron.
