Description

Wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day in a girl's life (and a boy's life too). Yet still this kind of happiness is denied to millions and millions of people. Earlier this month the California Supreme Court overruled state legislation forbidding gay marriage. Certainly a reason for celebration and joy for gays and lesbians not only in California. Meanwhile there is a call for stay of execution of this directive until after the November elections, when Californians could vote on a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. The point - as always - is that gay marriage will be the end of civilization as we know it... That it's against God's law, unnatural, disgusting, dangerous, a sickness, you name it. I found these news this morning on lesbiatopia. Please my friends, if you are Californian citizens, do vote against this amendment in November! We gays and lesbians are not inclined to destroy the civilization we are a part of. It is our civilization as well. All we are asking for is the right to persuit of some happiness! EDIT: I just see that this is my pic number 300 here at Renderosiy. Well if it's not good at least it's for a good cause! Thank you all for your constant support and friendship. You are always in my heart. Thank you and please excuse my ranting!

Great image & message! Although I´m critical against marriage (read Emma Goldman, "Anarchism and other Essays" for example), I think that gay couples should be allowed to marry too, cause it´s still regarded by the majority as a sign of love and respect towards each other and gives privileges in taxes and law. So forbidding marriage for certain couples is an act of discrimination, saying that their love is less valued and not wanted by society.

I thought it was Osama and Achmondinijad (spelling? LOL) that were going to end mankind. My point being, gays and lesbeians are not going to end mankind. The A-bomb will do that and it surely would not be a gay or a lesbian that would push that magic button of doom. Shame on mankind for it's bigotry and hypocracy. Another point of view would be a biblical reference of "He who is without sin should cast the first stone". Do you know anyone anywhere without sin? Me neither!!!!!! So those against gays and lesbians having rights, drop those rocks dammit!!!!

Congratulations, Dorothea.. a beautiful and touching wedding portrait, and a strong message. It's great to see so much support from the community. The huge irony is that (straight) marriage is on the whole becoming less meaningful, divorce no longer a stigma, and living in partnership outside marriage more common. What sort of civilisation do these people think they are protecting anyway? And when will they get rid of those ridiculous dogma crutches and make an effort to take a few mental steps on their own? My rant over.

As a California citizen, you've got my vote. Although, I always thought that not haivng to worry about marriage or military service was a point for your side.

Happy 300th. As to gay marriages, well... The day mankind becomes tolerant, it just won't be mankind anylonger... (Not that I will lament, personally...)

People always fear difference and rejects anything wich does'nt enter into their "normalisation" It's even more sacred today with mass medias and fashion, any difference have to be banned, marginalised and disappear... Will one day people be enough opened to realise that people are more important than narrow minded ideas? I'm a bit pessimist but i don't think it will be for tomorrow, but it's not a reason to stop to act and hope!

As someone who lives in Canada (who's Supreme Court has already ruled on this in favour of gay marriage), my concern is with the courts deciding important political issues in the place elected officials. While there's the danger of politicians pandering to the most vocal/angry voters, something rubs me the wrong way when those same politicians do nothing while unelected judges make public policy for them. So, even though I see the pros of the gay marriage debate, I don't like the way it's come about in my country (or how it's coming about in California either). For those who actually want to get married though, I don't suppose they care how it happens one way or the other, so long as it happens...

Oh, I cried when I saw this ... it's so beautiful!! Jo and I are selling our house in Washington and moving back to California ... where on March 5, 2004 ... because of a very bold and brave mayor of San Francisco we had been married. We are hoping and praying that when we move back we can do it again and it will "stick"! We have been together for 20 years ... we've been best friends for 40 years ... it's time the world accepted us as a couple and those like us. We aren't attacking religion ... they can have thier beliefs. We are seeking secular marriage, as this country was founded on the separation of church and state. Our hearts were broken in 2004 when the ruling was overturned ... I so hope it won't happen again. This is a wonderful piece, thank you for sharing it. and listening to my rant. :)
