Description

In March 1952, Colliers Magazine began a series of articles by a team of 23 contributors, headed by the German-American rocket scientist Wernher von Braun. The team of experts, scientists and space-advocates used the magazine to vividly illustrate their dramatic vision of the near future, and how humans could exploit the seemingly endless possibilities found in space. Here is an historical "mockphoto" taken in 1958 during the lauch of Jupiter III for the first human orbital flight. The spacecraft is an original design by Wernher von Braun as was portraited in Colliers Magazine by the space artist Chesley Bonestell. Spacecraft modelled and rendered in Bryce 4 and picture composed in Photoshop. Comments and rates are welcome :)

Nice recreation. It's tragic that the US did not follow von Braun's original plan for the exploitation of space. We'd still have been on the Moon by 1970 but more importantly, WE'D STILL BE ON THE MOON. Not to mention having a series of fully-constructed space stations in orbit.

You captured the "can do" spirit of the time with this Outstanding image. I agree with DavidEMartin, we not only would STILL be on the Moon but we would have bases there and a foothold on Mars!! Ahhhh ... the future that might have been ...
