Description

A study in perspective. In 1564, Cosimo I de' Medici had Giorgio Vasari construct a corridor along the top of the now world famous Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy. Known as the "Vasariano Corridor," it is technically part of the Uffizi Gallery. In a time notorious for deadly conspiracies, the Corridor was a discreet passage that offered safety from assassination and a quick exodus in the event of rebellion. It was completed in just six months, a considerable accomplishment considering the complexity of its route. The Corridor begins at the Palazzo Vecchio, traverses part of the Uffizi, and descends in long steps close to the Arno river. It then runs parallel to the river above a portico, and then crosses the Arno above the shops of Ponte Vecchio. Finally, it continues through the Oltrarno district, passing in front of the facade of the church of Santa Felicita to reach the Boboli Gardens, and from there, Palazzo Pitti, which was the Medici's home. Depicted here is the lower support structure of the Corridor (the portico) that runs alongside the Arno River. It connects the Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") itself and the Uffizi museum. Usually, artists and craftsmen hang out here and sell their wares. Given the hustle and bustle around this area, it took a while to capture a shot without anybody either standing or strolling in the walkway.

Very nice symetric composition. Personally, I would have used a shorter DOF to get the illusion of infinity of repeats.

Oh Wow! truly beautiful image. I can't believe I was there last year and decided not to go up to the bridge and instead took a shot of the bridge spanning the river... I must go back!!! Great image! Angi :)
