Description
Since my dear wife (stringz) beat me to posting the Great Blue Heron with its catch yesterday, I added the word, (Too) with the image title. No plagiarizing here. These birds are amazing to watch and they growl rather loudly and long as they fly from one edge of the pond to the other. Hope you enjoy seeing the shore dinner.

In Holland they almost all died in the severe winter of 1978/79 The only Herons (1 "Reiger", 2 "Reigers" in Dutch) that survived were the ones that moved to the cities.. as the cities are a bit warmer AND people leave food behind. So .. in the 1980's you only saw Reigers in the cities.. and from there they re-colonize the country.. it is amazing I saw a Reiger once with a fish half way his mouth that was 2x larger than the fish your bird has in his mouth.. I thought it would kill the bird.. but like a snake.. he ate it all

I am looking at the fish, then looking at the herons mouth/neck... He's gonna swallow that thing? Amazing. Nice shot.

once again WOW ...

I see them from time to time here but I don't get to the river as often as I did. I see more white herons as a rule.

I can't quite tell if this is a goldfish or a koi...but the picture makes me shudder, LOL. We have a 3,000 gallon koi pond in our backyard and we ended up having to net the whole pond in. The day the net was being installed the heron sat on the fence at the end of the yard, watching what was going on. When he checked things out later, he was NOT a happy bird...imagine, being able to see all those wonderful, yummy koi and goldfish and not being able to get to them!
