Hello! My name is Jodie. I live in Minnesota where the temps can fluxuate by 20 degrees in one day. Most of my photos have been taken very close to my home, a 10 acre hobby farm., where I raise Alpacas and chickens. I am a band director, a musician/singer and a photographer/adviser on the yearbook committee. My camera of choice is a Nikon. I have a D90 and a D70. I also have a SB800 flash and favorite lens is Nikon 18-200mm AF-S, with VR. Revisiting the visual arts is something I should have done years ago. If I see something remarkable, I just try to capture it. Nobody else will ever see it quite that way again so I hope you try that, too. This is just like expensive therapy for us.  Thank you for visiting and may you have a peaceful day!Â

Hey! Nice capture, excellent POV.

Yes, the angled POV (rather than straight on) is really nice. Excellent capture all the way around.

Very nice capture Odie! great choice to make it B&W -- it makes the architecture stand out!

It's not Black & White. I thought about converting it to B&W, but I like the sandy stone color. Hopefully the splash of red at the end of the tunnel draws ones eye...

Interesting contrast of the helter-skelter barren tree branches against the artificial geometry of the arched corridor, Jodie. Is this a photo of when you were in Washington, DC, or are you still physically there?

I'm home in MN. This series of shots is from D.C. and I am way behind in uploading.

jodie, there are certain works which remind me how much of a fan I am, and this is one because I love your choices and your feel. If you crop the picture just above the planters (right-bottom), it's a completely different shot, and a good one too (!): 2 arches in shadow preceded by a sidewalk in light. But you included the planters, and they add a wonderful playfulness to the shot, in the repetition of their circles and just the fact that they're there. (And a classy placement of your signature, right into the rim of one of the planters!) The shade under the arches is wonderful, as is the tree in front of the arches which is almost a canopy. (Arches love you, I've decided.) And then the back of the shot where we return to light, and yes I can see the splash of red, and it does draw us through the shot. The awning moves at a different angle from your pov, so it's in subtle counterpoint...small but part of good photography because whether you consciously choose these things or find them intuitively, it's a matter of finding the music in front of you. It's really a capture of the mystery of a street woven under the restful shadows of a filtered sun; and it's restful and really very beautiful.
