Description

for those not familiar with the Silmarillion, by JRR Tolkien, this is the scene where having been slain in single combat by Morgoth, The High Elf King Fingolfin lies broken at the black gates. Swooping from above The Eagle Thorodrin (The same who later rescues Gandalf) takes his body to the Elves for burial.

Basicly, Morgoth had slain every Elf that was any threat to him. Only Fingolfin remained, and seeing his homeland pillaged and his Elves slain, he rode upon the Black Gates, (the same ones Aragorn rides upon in Return of the King). After several days the Dark Lord Morgoth comes forth with a massive hammer, and a duel begins which sees Fingolfin inflict 7 wounds upon his foe and despite being trampled and battered, he cuts off Morgoths foot, but dies on the ground outside. Morgoth orders him fed to the wolves, but Thorodrin swoops from above and bears his body away for burial. An amazing book, well worth reading! and thats just one of the stories in it...
