Description
Hi all, This is a couple strange bee like creatures I caught on camera yesterday. No idea what they would be named. These were the largest I saw, many were smaller- neither of these were 1/2 inch long - pear shaped, hovered like bees and were going wild flower to wild flower. I wish I had better shots but only had a few minutes to play at my lunch break. Thanks for looking and for all of the comments you post. Better if view is full sized. -GB-

..wunderbar, dass Du die "erwischt" hast. Die sind fürchtlich unruhig und schwer vor die Linse zu bekommen! Zwei wunderbar, scharfe Aufnahme von diesem Wollschweber!

We have a similar insect here in the UK, they are refrered to as Humble bees as oposed to bumble bees, although, I won't stick my neck out and say that this is one, great captures tho'

There is such a thing as a bee fly. Could be one. If you ever want to identify a bug and have a little time to do it, go to Whatsthatbug.com and look through their photo ID pages. They have everything there and if they don't, just email a photo and question.

Well caught for such small critters. They look quite fuzzy too. Can't help with a name I'm afraid.

Wow, never seen one of those before - Interesting capture! Lets hope it's a gift from the gods that were sent here to eat no-see-ems (sand flies)... I was nearly eaten by them yesterday... I felt-ems! :-)

Wow! That proboscis if that is what it is, looks wicked, I would not like to feel the sharp end of that. It reminds me of the cartoon hornet, that used to be on TV quite a few years ago. Lol. Excellent capture, something I have never seen here in the North of England. Bravo!!!!!
