Description
Jus' something I worked up this afternoon in the never ending quest to nudge a little realism out of Poser. Anyway, which of these two is least offensive to the eye? That is the question.
Rendered in Poser 7 with a bit o' post-work in PSP 9.
Thanks for viewing and commenting. :-)

Well darlin' you're askin' the wrong little Libra here :o) ...we never can make up our minds, soooo, gotta say I like them both equally (maybe the colored one just a smidge more)....both are really well done, and once again, exemplary work dear Gene! H u g z z

Both are extremely attractive, but I cannot fault the color version, whose textures and the reflective finish are particularly realistic. The hair looks a little blurred, which is the only reason in my scheme of thinking that would show this picture to be a 3D digital image and not real hair. You may have to lengthen render times to achieve more detail in her hair, but apart from that, (which is not meant to be a criticism in any way), merely a way to put that cherry on the top of a very pleasing work indeed. Steve :o)

Both are great !! especially together--remember the OLD 3D posters where you 'looked past' or 'crossed your eyes' to get a 3D image--many people could do it easily and some could not do it at all--well I was one of the lucky ones so when i see 2pix that are similiar, but SLIGHTLY different--I "cross my eyes" the 2 become 3, and the 'one' in the center is in 3D --to ME your pix above work beautifully THAT way..

Both are really superb!

Os dois são exemplares, é dificil falar em qual seria mais apropriado, eu particularmente me adapto melhor ao colorido, mas ambos estão esplendidos, aplausos (5) The two are exemplary, it is difficult to speak in which would be more appropriate, I particularly adapt better to the color, but both are shined, applause (5)

I like the both but i think i prefer the version in colors! really cool :)
Daramski
Very cool, I like both of them, the monochrome looks very stylish, so does the coloured version, awesome character and lighting!!

Sometimes realism can be achieved best in mono - simply because it is not real anyway, but has become a sort of acceptable norm, via photography and film. I even think mono photographs are better than colour sometimes for actually enhancing reality in expression. However, both the images here are a fantastic achievement and I like both in different ways. The mono one has lost a little detail, but it doesn't matter.
OrphanedSoul
I prefer the color image

the B&W one looks more "real" to me - but both nice:)

I like the coloured one the best but then that is only because I am a colour freak. They both are very beautiful with a lovely expression.

Neither image offends my eyes, quite the contrary. Both are excellent. If i have to decide, i'd have to go with color...beautiful works!!!!!

They both look good but I prefer the coloured one, especially since the light shows better on that one. Steve might have a point, I haven't seen that hair render particularly well on any render, so if you're trying to achieve realism, you may want to use other hair.

I follow my friend's Peter (e-brink) idea that BW can wipe some imperfections of Poser models better than color. Now on your render we cannot speak of such imperfections, first because models of today are much better than Poser 4 ones, and in second hand because you postworked brillantly the small imperfections. And also you choiced a cloth that is without problems; i.e. it is narrow and has not to show folds, that are still a nightmare in Poser/Daz/Quidam models today except in Dynamic clothes. As said above, BW renders insists on expression, on the essentials of a picture, and color is more playful (we can be lost and fooled by color harmonies). This is the reason why so many photographers here prefer BW. Have you seen RBlue's excellent comics here "Teenage Martians from Venus" All BW but excellent! Worth the highest honors! NEVERTHELESS, if you want to publish a comics (Belgian style, things are of course different for manga or non-realistic humo styles), you have to do that in color otherwise it won't sell. But perhaps because I have retained somewhat a child's mind I prefer color! Hmm… If you suppress color info to go Grey Mode, that implies that the channels (RGB or CMYK) are all converted into a single greyscale channel, Okay? This presumes that the translation fits what the eye is waiting and the result is that the image (I am speaking here as former professional photographer) presents a complete set of grey gradients. If here you look at her left arm, you notice that the greyscale is crushed in the shadow area. This could be corrected into Photoshop CS and later going into Adjustments > Dark and light tones, but has to be done manually. Anyway I like this kind of experiment!

both are fine!

They are both very offensive to the eyes. Excellent work.
morghana
Very beautiful colors and fantastic expression!!!
Rainbowgirl
It's hard to tell, I like 'em both. Perhaps the colored version leads with a point or two!
Gor111
Both portraits have their own fascination! Wonderfully done!!!

The black and white needs different lighting so her right shoulder is not lost. There is a setting for hard black and white (not grey scale) that gives even starker contrast with lots more vanished. (Adjust/brightness and contrast/threshold in PaintShopPro)

Neither are offencive, but in the realism stakes, I think the colour version looks the most convincing, well done Gene. ~Cheers~
