Great shot. He is so well camoflaged, I bet he was hard to get a photo of. He looks like a partridge family member (Not the 70's TV show - partridge family) to me.

Kaward i have it.It is Coqui Francolin.I recognise it in the bird book on the yellow legs as well as the bit of yellow on the beak and the patterns on the black patterns on the feathers of the birds stomach. The Coqui Francolin (Francolinus coqui) is a species of bird in the Phasianidae family. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coqui_Francolin http://www.iucnredlist.org/search/details.php/47010/all

This is a very unusual bird to me. It has markings that remind me of pheasant and a body style to match but the head and neck remind me of the roadrunner. A fabulous shot.

Ha, ek wou sĂȘ "bospatrys" (crested francolin) maar sal volstaan, daar is te veel verskille. Excellent close up detail.
