Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held images. Here are two more views of this colorful Box Turtle. Years ago, I saw a lot of Box Turtles on my property but then (after 4-5 years)they all seemed to disappear and for years it was a rare occurrence to see one. However, in the last 2 or 3 years I have noticed several each season so maybe they are repopulating in my area. This is the 2nd one I found so far this year. I got shots of the other one also but they are not very good. This was taken late in the evening and patchy rain clouds were moving in. My little pocket camera is not well equipped to handle low light. It has one option/response - FLASH, lol. Usually I am so close to my little critter subjects that the 1" lens gets between the flash and the subject and casts a shadow that covers the subject. If I back up enough to prevent that - then all I manage to get is a washed out and over exposed image. Therefore I usually have the flash turned off. On this occasion I decided to try the flash since my subject was so much larger than usual and therefore I was quite a bit further away from the subject. Thus I avoided the shadow and had enough distance to prevent the unwanted flash effects. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

...auf dem ersten Foto meinte man, das sei ein "Riese". Aber nun: eine süße kleine Schildkröte! Wunderbare Aufnahmen!

It looks very healthy, all those really wide growth rings are a good sign. I have the same problem with flash, I only use it on huge subjects like people indoors.

I think you did exceptionally well with the flash Lee, I am guessing this one to be about ten to twelve years old? and looking at the shot of you holding it my guess of size wasn't far out yesterday. Great facial markings on both this one and yesterdays. I agree with StandsInAwe, nice to hear they may be making a comeback, and I know they will have a good home on your property. Excellent captures. Bravo!!!!!
