BIO Hi, I am Gun Legler from Sweden. I live together with my cat Simon in a little village near Gothenburg On the outside I am old, but young inside :-) For so long I can remember, I have enjoyed expressing myself through any kind of art or craft. Until I was 40 I worked as a child psychologist and pre-school teacher, but after that I said goodbye to my profession and began studying at an art school. There I stayed for four years, mainly learning Graphic art (etching, dry needle and linoleum cut). I was a lousy oil painter, that medium did not fit me at all, watercolor I liked better. For many years I made collages of different kind, watercolor and textile. I grew up with a mother that sewed and a father that built violins, so I early fell in love with textures of many kinds. I have now abandoned making textile collages, but I realize that I work much in the same way with my computer art. I take a piece here and a piece there and try to make a whole of it. And I am madly in love with textures of all kinds, I can sit for hours just playing with different colors, textures and filters, making backgrounds just for fun (and for upcoming images). I work very much by intuition when I make an image, experimenting wildly with layers, textures, color and light. But the form is equally important, thats what Graphic school taught me. I have seldom a clear inner image when I start creating, it is more a feeling I want to express. The process can be quite unconscious to me for a long time. The image gradually takes form, and become clearer to me. What I want with my images is to reach the feelings of the viewers, to make them look into their own inner being and respond in any way, regardless of which feeling is evoked.

I am Gun's daughter Lena (zitalena@gmail.com). I am so, so sorry to tell you all that mom passed Tuesday morning, Feb 8 2022, Swedish time. No panic, no pain, no regrets. So peaceful. I tried to get a message about this on my moms latest picture, but now I can't find it. But now I have her computer and can log in. Please email me if you want. Thanks to all. Mom really loved the community!! Her gallery will live on. I have changed the address to mine, because me and my brother really would LOVE to keep her gallery open. Love to all.

Wow! This is so intense and even difficult for me to view. You are always so good at bringing a strong reaction from me with your art, Gun. I can see many different scenarios for this, but the one that sticks with me is a person who has died but not crossed over yet. For some reason this person lingers on this side. Why? And then there is the question of what the circumstance are that caused the death. Was the death violent and is the body hidden in some shallow grave waiting to be discovered. Powerful image, Gun.

Hi Gun, As you know, I love all your creations but must offer a hint of criticism tonight. Absolutely love the image and the emotions it evokes but I am so distracted by I guess, what is supposed to be a piece of barbed wire across her chin. It seems redundant and what my eye is drawn instantly versus the entire image. It may be only disturbing to me but without it, the image would evoke a far greater response. Hope you don't find this observation offensive. Just my point of view. Hugs, Tutte

Perfect for the theme and awesome work Gun!

Greetings Gun, There are aspects of the image I like and then there are two parts that I find distracting. Tutte already mentioned one, that being the piece of barbwire across the chin as one s attentions is drawn to it and the other has to do with composition. By cropping in a little tighter, i feel it becomes stronger and we also leave out the reddish stain in the upper left hand corner to which my eye is also drawn. On the other hand I did not see 'Freedom' but I felt I did see anger by a mob destroying political art. Thank you for sharing egmont

Beautiful artwork!

See this reminds me of an earthquake or other drastic disasters ...what the person felt while buried under rubble. It's haunting, yet speaks volumes. I really like it...good theme. The barbed wire distraction...I see it as part of the rubble, maybe more grit or something could have been added to the face...but it's a great piece

To comfort you, it is NOT barbed wire, just a string with a knot! The source photo from Resurgere is a big sculpture of humans, tied togeter with thin ropes.

A most unique and intriguing image that fits the theme so well.

Absolutely breathtakingly extraordinary!

Nice work and a touch sad. I’ve heard that sculpters that work in stone sometimes say the creation was always there in the stone waiting for the artist. so maybe Its the vision of the new work locked away in the stone begging for the artist to create it.

as usual, amazing idea and fantastic realization :-)

Superb idea.. and wonderful work of textures and colours

I like Smallreddog's sense of what this represents. I like the idea that this is a work of art, a statue, inside the stone, waiting for the artist, the sculpture, to release it. I did not see barbed wired across the chin, wasn't sure what it was, but it's not barbed wire.

Excellent artwork, but rather depressing. Seems to be a warning of what this world is coming to.
