Description

On my first visit to the raptor center, the volunteer asked if I wanted to feed this Kestrel. Perhaps this was to educate me a bit and to see how I took to the birds. This one is one of the program birds, not able to be released but used in educational programs. I was holding a dead mouse in the glove. The Kestrel is the smallest falcon in my part of the world and one of the more colorful. My wife shot the photo from a distance.

I am taken with this little raptor. Its colors are fabulous and I wonder how it could be such a great hunter when it is so flashy, but it is and no matter how it does it. I am a fan of beak and leg/feet details and you have not disappointed me with this shot.

Your wife did a great job Tom. Kestrels are marvelous raptors and as far as I know some of the speediest of all birds. :)
