I would be listening for the whisper of the wind in the tops and wondering how it inspired the language of the Chippewa. Remembering the words of Hiawatha would not be good enough. I would have to have Father Baraga's dictionary. At some point I would enter the lodge and meet the tom-tom and the tobacco.
