Description
Taken some time ago in the Abruzzo National Park.
They are called Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Pine Processionary), I assure you that looking them moving in syncronicity was a true spectacle... a little dangerous, however!

Why would they be dangerous? Just curious, Marco.

Great photograph. They cause irritation of the skin (even after 5 years these hairs are still active). Prefer not to meet them.

Would be dangerous to my stomach if I saw them in action -- creepy crawlies! Nice capture, though!

They can bring heavy allergies. Excellent and very detailled shot!

When the holidaymakers in the UK are all making for the coast for public holidays in summer, they always remind me of the Pine processionary! The roads get gridlocked and the nose to tail queue is endless. Our town is famous for its pine trees and we used to have a train come here called the Pines Express. Great to see your pic, as i have only read about these not seen them!
