Description

I had stopped along side the road and decided to make my own trail into an old lava flow area. Normally, there would not be anyone around in this area. After gearing up and headed into the area, one car pulled along side mines.....then another.......then another....then another. Some how, I think they were gearing up to follow me thinking there is something of interest in the lava field. Hiking in, I did find out that the volcanologist had set up some monitoring equipment and so I kept my distance. Here is a fallen tree that was trapped by the lava flow, stood there for some time and then eventually fell as time moved on. You would figure that the whole tree would be charcoal but not so. Anyways, after looking around for a short time, I headed back out. To my surprise, more people were walking in as everyone seemed curious of what everyone else was doing. More cars were trying to park. Wow? What a day........ Aloha and thank you for viewing

SapUS59...In some areas, we have mistakenly walked over newly formed surface lava that was probably about 3 hours old. Lava hardens pretty fast but I wouldn't recommend walking over it till it cools down some "Check it out" . Thanks for asking... Aloha

Very interesting story! It's like looking up in a crowded street, and everyone stops and does the same. Try it!

What a fantastic shot! I finally saw my first volcano(s) in Europe. Mt Etna and Vesuvius, the size is very intimidating especially considering your shots that show so well what they can do.

Interesting story about your private trail what became a turist attraction in a short time. Fascinating to observe a place after everything settled and see a damages.Great shot to just show one.

Sort of what happens when you go to the grocery store. You are just about the only one in the store and you get in line to check out behind the only other person you've seen anywhere. They have a big load of groceries and as you stand there, waiting and waiting while that person's stuff gets rung up, people start lining up behind you until there are a dozen people and then they open another check out... but you can't get to it because everyone is stampeding to be the first in that line. Oh, well, you can tell I've had a bad time at the store today. LOL Great shot and good story.

I equate it to the phenomena of like working in a grocery store.a clerk can stand for 30 minutes and no one will come.but let them go do some stocking and here the people come. seems like they give the next person the same idea when they stop exceptional capture Errol and I know the rumblings of the active volcanoes are old hat to Hawaii natives, but I would be nervous to spend much time close to the lava flows

A lovely capture of how mother nature does things. How amusing that so many cars came. Maybe they thought you were a guide or something. I too would be nervous around these lava flows.

Well everybody know that sharky_ knows the best spots. I would be surprised if they didn't follow you LOL. Excellent shot, Errol. I'm surprised that the whole thing doesn't burn up when the lave first hits it.
