Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image.
Dragonflies are one of my favorite subjects. Not so long ago I thought I would never manage to get a shot of one but somewhere along the way, that seemed to change. I do not really know what happened to increase my success rate but I am sure happy about whatever it was, lol.
This week is for Dragonflies. I hope no one gets tired of the POV because it is the same in all but one of this week's intended postings. I have 4 images of the males of different species and 3 images of corresponding females.
If nothing else happens, hopefully the images will provide a lesson in how to determine the sex of these fascinating critters.
The young males of many species have the same colors and markings as the females. That can be confusing. Once they become mature, the colors can change quite a lot but by looking at the tip of the tails, one can easily decide if it is a male or a female. In this respect, they are easily differentiated regardless of their age.

It is going to be very interesting to see some North American species! There is quite a bit of colour in the wings, most of ours have very little. Excellent photo, of course, Lee!

I don't think I have ever seen one like this before Lee, the wings look like they have been etched out of amber. A truly wonderful colour tone to the whole Dragonfly, this has to be one of your best ever to date. If this is anything to go by I for one can't wait to see the rest. Put my name down for the natural history education class this week please. Superb image, instant favourite. Bravo!!!!!
