Hi Everybody,
Well I haven't been around again and am behind on ebots...and this is why:
Took Joey...my 12 yr. Old to the Bone Specialist Weds. 6-11-08 about the pain in his upper left thigh...I had taken him to the pediatrician a couple of weeks ago about it...she thought it was a strained muscle...but the pain in his upper thigh kept getting worse...so I decided on my own to take him to the bone Dr.(this has been hurting him for almost 2 mons.)
Anyway....he did xrays and found he has a Slipped Femoral Epiphysis: http://www.surgerydoor.co.uk/medical_conditions/Indices/S/slipped_femoral_epiphysis.htm (the above link will explain it better than I can)
So he had surgery on Thursday 6-12-08. He is on crutches now and will be on them for 6 to 8 weeks.
The sugery went well.....it took longer than they thought....2 hrs....Dr. Kerr put 2 pins in his hip and wanted to make absolutely sure they were positioned correctly......he was in pain yesterday...but says he feels much better today and wants to go to the mall or Wal-mart(NOTTTT) The first week he cannot get the incision site and bandaging wet...so that means sponge baths and me doing his hair over the sink or bathtub. We were at the hospital forever....left at 7:30am and he was supposed to be in surgery by 11:30am....they didn't take him to surgery til 1:15pm.....and he was out by 3:30pm.....we got home by 5:30pm..... He was very brave and got bored but was a real trooper...having to sit and sit... He has only taken one pain pill(yesterday)...says he doesn 't want one today. He goes back to see Dr. Kerr in one week for a follow up. Bless his heart...there goes his summer...but this was a must do.. Thank you for all of the sweet emails, thoughts and prayers sent Joey's way...we so appreciate it. lots and lots of love, Carol
